What lies behind us and what lies before us, are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson |
I began riding at the ripe age of four. I spent approximately a two year span, with my first instructor, Ruth, on two special horses, Chance and Cricket at Folly Farms in Simsbury Connecticut. We never forget our first lesson horses! They taught my little self how to balance and post, first on a leadline and then solo over small crossrails in the arena.
As I grew older, I started riding at the Farmington Polo Club in Farmington Connecticut. I began training and showing with Lisa Sherman and the late Hugh Kerrigan in hunter jumpers. Later I began working for Hugh and showed with the riding team.
In high school, I also began riding and working for River Farms, now known as the Avon Show Stables. I spent a few summers riding at Ethel Walker under the guidance of Pamela Dill. Over the years I learned to safely handle and train everything from foals to greenies, all the way up to the old retired pasture horse. I've worked with all breeds of horses, though primarily owned thoroughbreds, warmbloods, and warmblood crosses.
During graduate school in Maryland, I began working with racehorses. After I graduated I began taking in ex-racehorses; rehabilitating and retraining them. I learned the most from these horses, especially one, I named Crush, his story will be one you'll see me referencing a lot. Of all the horses I have encountered in my life, he was special in a special way.
I developed my own method of working with horses and humans slowly and carefully over a vast number of years. I spent a lot of time growing up with horses, training and caring for their well being. I've taken many courses, everything from Natural horsemanship, TTTouch, Masterson Method, Equissage, Holistic Training, and foundational in-hand training work with classical methods. I hope to be able to add some understanding of Jean Luc Cornille's Science of Motion to my method once my filly grows up some.
When I am not working with horses, I work from home as a creative freelance professional. I am constantly playing with my cameras (wedding, children, and horses being a favorite subjects of mine), I enjoy getting lost in the art marking processes and playing with my toddler son. I hold a BFA, MFA, and MAT.
